Spoedtest.nl carries out three types of tests:

  1. The PCR-test. This test reveals genetic material from the coronavirus in the swab that is taken from your throat and nose. Our PCR-test is processed by an ISO certified laboratory and works according to the guidelines of the RIVM. You will receive an international travel certificate with the test result.
  2. The rapid antigen test. This test detects SARS-CoV-2 antigens within 30 minutes. Our rapid test is CR-certified and had been found reliable by the RIVM. You will receive a travel certificate in English. It’s your own responsibility to check if the rapid antigen test is valid to travel with to your destination. Please check this carefully before you travel.

You will receive you result by email via a secured server.

Adapted travel advice (for Dutch residents)

If the colour code of your destination has changed to orange or red, you have to have a corona certificate for your return to the Netherlands. The corona certificate must indicate that you have been vaccinated, have recovered from COVID-19 or that you have been tested negative for the coronavirus. So if you do not have a vaccination or recovery certificate, you have to get yourself tested abroad. Check the website of the Dutch government to see exactly what you need to do before travelling back to the Netherlands.

In some cases an adjusted travel advice means that your trip is cancelled. If you have booked a test appointment for your trip at Spoedtest.nl, you can cancel via the link we have sent in the confirmation email. If you cancel up to 24 hours before your appointment, there will be a refund. We only charge €10,- adminstration costs.

The advice from the Dutch government is to only travel to countries with a yellow or green colour code. For an overview of the most recent travel advice and entry restrictions for all countries, visit Netherlands Worldwide.

General

It’s not painful, however a lot of people experience it as unpleasant. Contact us if you have a medical condition.

It differs per corona test what exactly you can expect. If you want to know what to expect from a PCR-Economy, PCR-Rapid or NAAT (PCR) Test – Last Minute, look under the heading PCR test.

If you want to know what to expect from a rapid antigen test, look under the heading rapid antigen test.

If you do not wish to have the test administered in the manner described (see the question ‘What can I expect from a PCR test/rapid antigen test?’), this must be agreed in advance with one of our medical doctors. In some cases we can come up with an alternative together. We never take rapid antigen tests through the throat only. Other options can be discussed. Please contact us via info@spoedtest.nl.

SARS-CoV-2 falls under the notification obligation for infectious diseases according to the Dutch Public Health Act (Wpg). We are obliged to report positive test results to your local GGD and may not do this anonymously. After notification, the GGD will contact you for a source and contact investigation. The infectious disease control doctor at the GGD assesses the risk of infection and whether measures are necessary such as: isolation and quarantine. Always follow the guidelines of the RIVM.

Yes, we test people from all ages. Will you be bringing a child that’s younger than 12 months, please call or send us an e-mail beforehand, so that one of our doctors will be notified and will take extra good care of your child. Do this only after you have booked the appointment.

Please note: Children also need to identify themselves at the appointment.

Yes, because we are a healthcare provider, everyone is obliged to identify themselves at the test appointment. This also applies to children.

You will pay directly while booking the appointment. You can do this with your debit card or credit card. For companies with multiple employees, it’s possible to pay by invoice. For more information, please visit our ‘For Companies’ page.

This depends on the test that you have taken.

  • When you have (minor) symptoms that fit the new corona virus.
  • When you have been in contact with someone who has tested positive for the new corona virus.
  • When you have received a notification in the CoronaMelder app.

No, we do not cooperate with the Public Health Service (GGD). However, we are obliged to inform the GGD in case of a positive corona test result.

To make an appointment you can easily choose a location and a type of test on the Spoedtest.nl homepage. After this you will be redirected to our booking system. When you have booked your test appointment, you will immediately receive a confirmation by email.

No, it is not possible to make an appointment by email. You can easily and quickly book an appointment on our website.

You will receive an appointment confirmation in your email after you have booked an appointment online. In this email we confirm the appointment, and here you can find all information about the appointment such as the location, date and time. You can also find a QR code in this email, with which you can easily check in at the test location for which you have booked your appointment.

The test will be administered by certified employees, under the supervision of one of our doctors.

Our doctors train the employees. The doctors are available by phone at all times, but unfortunately they cannot be constantly present at every location.

Unfortunately, this is not possible unless you have a medical condition. The PCR test will then solely be taken from the throat, but we do this only in exceptional cases. This should always be discussed with one of our doctors. Therefore, please make sure to send an email in advance.

Pay attention! Each test always has a percentage of false positives and false negatives.

  • The PCR test has a very high sensitivity, and is thus internationally ranked as the “golden standard”. This means the PCR test is considered the best corona test available and it is used to investigate the reliability of other tests.
  • The Rapid Antigen Test we use is the Flowflex from the Acon Biotech brand. This test has a sensitivity of 97.1% and a specificity of 99.5%.

Yes! The negative test result we will send you is in English. The document is checked on the following 5 points:

  • Type test: at Spoedtest.nl we use the ‘TR PCR’.
  • Test result: must be negative.
  • First and last name: in accordance with your passport.
  • Date and time of administering the test.
  • Data from te institute or laboratory that administered the test.

Yes, all Spoedtest.nl locations are open seven days a week.

PCR-test

PCR stands for polymerase chain reaction. The PCR-test shows genetic material of the coronavirus in the swab that is taken out of your throat and nose. The pieces of genetic material that are found will be copied and multiplied in the laboratory. This multiplication gives the PCR-test a high sensitivity.

You can expect the following of a PCR test:

  • We ask you to blow your nose.
  • Then we first take a swab from your throat. It is important that your mouth is wide open. We may ask you to say “aaa” so that the pharynx is wider.
  • After we take the throat swab, we use the same swab to take a swab in one of the nostrils. For this we ask you to tilt your head back, so that the test stick can enter the nose more easily.
  • The test stick goes deep into the nose. Here we spin it around for a few seconds. You can get tear eyes or start sneezing, that’s normal.
  • After the throat and nasal swabs have been taken, we put the test stick in a tube with liquid.
  • We send the swab from PCR-Economy. You will receive the result in your email within 16 hours.
  • The NAAT (PCR) Test is analyzed directly at the test location by our PCR machines. You will receive the result in your email within 30 minutes.

The PCR – Rapid test gives a faster result than the PCR – Economy test. You will receive your result within 4 hours

  • Faster result than the PCR – Economy test and cheaper than the NAAT (PCR) Test.
  • Validated by the RIVM
  • International travel certificate

With the PCR – Economy test, your result will be sent within 16 hours. We process the test during off-peak hours in our laboratory. This allows us to guarantee that you will receive your result within 16 hours. Do you want a cheaper test and are you not in a hurry? The PCR – Economy test is the perfect fit for you.

  • The most economical option
  • Result within 16 hours
  • International travel certificate

With the NAAT (PCR) Test the result comes within half an hour! We process your test at the test location with our state-of-the-art machines, so you get your result within half an hour. The NAAT (PCR) Test is recommended if you really need your test result last minute.

  • Fastest result of the PCR-test
  • RIVM approved
  • International travel certificate

Yes, all PCR tests on the coronavirus are RT-PCR. RT stands for Reversed Transcription. Because a PCR requires double-stranded material and a corona virus is an RNA virus, the single-stranded RNA has to first be converted into double-stranded material. This process is called Reversed Transcription.

With a PCR-Economy test, your result will be sent within 16 hours. We process the ‘Economy test’ in our laboratory during off-peak hours. This allows us to guarantee that you will receive your results within 16 hours. So do you want a cheaper test and are you not in a hurry? Then the PCR Economy test is perfect for you.

  • Best value for money
  • Result within 16 hours
  • International travel certificate

You can book a PCR test for any time of the day. Opening times vary per location, so make sure to check this in advance to know if it suits your needs.

  • NAAT (PCR) Test – Last Minute costs €159,95
  • PCR – Economy costs €89,95
  • PCR – Rapid costs €109,95

No, it is not possible to have the corona test taken anonymously. If you are tested positive, we need all your data to pass this on to the Public Health Services (GGD). We are obliged to inform the GGD in case of a positive corona test result.

You will receive the certificate in English. The PCR test is the most commonly used test for international travel, so it is important that we provide the travel certificate in English.

Rapid antigen test

The rapid antigen test detects SARS-CoV-2 antigens. Antigens are proteins of the virus where our immune system can give a reaction to. The rapid antigen test shows you if there are found any antigens in your system by a swab out of your nose. Our rapid test is CR-IVD certified and has been found reliable by the RIVM.

The test result comes with a travel certificate in English. It’s your own responsibility to check if the rapid test is valid to travel with.

  • Sensitivity: 97.1%
  • Specificity: 99.5%

You can expect the following of a rapid antigen test:

  • We ask you to blow your nose.
  • Then we first take a swab from your throat. It is important that your mouth is wide open. We may ask you to say “aaa” so that the pharynx is wider.
  • After we take the throat swab, we use the same swab to take a swab in one of the nostrils. For this we ask you to tilt your head back, so that the test stick can enter the nose more easily.
  • The test stick goes deep into the nose. Here we spin it around for a few seconds. You can get tear eyes or start sneezing, that’s normal.
  • At the moment there are also thicker antigen test sticks in circulation than the test sticks we normally use. These test sticks go less deeply into the nose, namely about 2.5 cm.
  • After the throat and nasal swabs have been made, we put the test stick in a tube with liquid.
  • We then drip the liquid onto a test strip. This will indicate within 15 minutes whether you have been tested positive or negative for the coronavirus. You will receive the result in your email within 30 minutes.

Yes, the Rapid Antigen Test is reliable. This counts for the CE marked rapid antigen tests that are approved by the RIVM. You are probably not contagious when you have a negative test result but it is never 100% certain.

In some cases yes, that is why you will receive an international travel certificate from us. However, a PCR-test is often required. Make sure you carefully check the requirements set by the country in question before you travel.

Vaccinations

We don’t know yet. The vaccines are relatively new, so there is insufficient evidence about the effectiveness available.

Yes, you do. Anyone who has been vaccinated should still follow the general corona measures. You can find these measures on the website of the Dutch government.

A vaccine protects you against the coronavirus disease, but we don’t know if someone who has been vaccinated can still spread the virus. In addition, one to two weeks after vaccination, 60-90% of people are protected against the new corona virus, so not everyone is protected. The chance that you will contract the virus after two vaccinations is very small, but it’s not impossible. That is why (for the time being) the same corona measures apply to vaccinated people as to people who have not been vaccinated.

After the first vaccination, you can still get infected with the coronavirus, because your defense against the virus has not yet been fully built up. After the second vaccination, the chance of getting sick is much smaller. Therefore it is important to get the second vaccination.

We do not know yet if vaccinated people can still spread the virus. That is why we are erring on the safe side for now: for vaccinated people the same measures apply as for people who have not been vaccinated.
