With our STI test Mycoplasma genitalium, your swab is checked in the laboratory for the presence of the bacterium Mycoplasma genitalium. The result of this STI test will therefore tell you whether you have mycoplasma of the vagina at the time of the test.

About mycoplasma in women
Women can get mycoplasma genitalium if the bacteria gets to your vagina. For example by having unprotected sex. The following symptoms are associated with vaginal mycoplasma genitalium:
- Pain during sex or when urinating
- Bleeding when you are not having your period
There are more symptoms associated with mycoplasma genitalium; these differ per person. However, many people with mycoplasma genitalium have no symptoms at all. So if in doubt, get yourself tested!

When can I take the STI test?
All STIs have a window period. This the time between the moment you’re infected and the moment when the STI is detectable. Mycoplasma genitalium has a window period of 14 days, which means you should not test yourself until 14 days after you’ve had unprotected sex.
